Prof. Dr. Sylvia Kairouz is an affiliate researcher at the Blockchain Research Lab.

Sylvia Kairouz is a full professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia University. She has published extensively in sociology, social epidemiology and public health journals, and won the Brain Star Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for her groundbreaking work on the role of social contexts in addictive behaviours. Her current research projects, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Fond de recherche du Québec – Société et Culture, examine the multi-level, individual and environmental determinants of gambling behaviours from a longitudinal perspective. She is also interested in the role of public policy as a preventive strategy for harm reduction. She has piloted eight large-scale population surveys in Quebec and Canada over the past ten years, and collaborates with key academics and institutions in Quebec, Canada and abroad. She holds the FRQ-SC Research Chair in Gambling and leads the HERMES research-clinical partnership team.
